Bob Berry, Worlds Away co-founder, honored as Carnival Memphis King 2019!
Jan 8th 2019
This week the announcement was made that Bob Berry and Catherine Owen would preside over Carnival Memphis as King and Queen for 2019.
For those of you not familiar with the Carnival Memphis organization, it was founded in 1931 with the aim of bringing attention to (and driving sales of) the cotton Industry during the Great Depression. A celebration was planned to lighten spirits during such a dark time. It was wildly successful and has continued for the last eight decades! Now, with the diversification of the Memphis economy, a different industry is highlighted each year. Fittingly, the Furniture and Home Décor Industry will be honored this year, and the royals will have very busy calendars filled with both philanthropic and social events.
One of the first official events will be the Business and Industry Salute on February 20, and all available Worlds Away employees will be there to support the King and represent the company that has been operating in Memphis for over 25 years, providing jobs and a healthy boost to the local economy.
Since 1999 Carnival and Grand Krewe Royalty have participated in the Community involvement program called the Carnival Children’s Charity Initiative, in which local children’s charities are selected by the krewes and fundraisers are held to raise money for donations. You will see the King and Queen at many of these events! Over the course of the program, well over $2 million dollars has been raised and distributed to those who most need it. Proving that it truly is “A Party With A Purpose”
In addition to all of that, the royals will make regular visits to hospitals and non-profit organizations, hold court at various galas, and continue to spread the good spirit of Memphis everywhere they go. We will keep you updated here on their adventures.
King Bob and Queen Catherine will make us all very proud!
HIP HIP HOORAY!
